The cross country season got off to a great start with the return of the club's XC championship. Fifty one members participated in the event at West End Common, which was also the first event in this year's Winter Grand Prix.
Dan Strang was the first home, completing the 6.5k course in 25:46, followed by Pete Gregorowski and Pavel Przepiorski, finishing in 26:31 and 27:15 respectively. Nicky Hornzee was first among the women, finishing eighth overall in a time of 29:57. Lex Prince was the second fastest woman in 30:41 and 12th position.

Elsewhere this weekend, Stragglers were back preparing for and racing marathons. In Germany Nicole Hamilton completed the Berlin Marathon in 3:07:24, while Nick Little crossed the line in 3:22;52 and new member Tony Finn completed his first ever marathon in 3:57:49. Travelling almost as far, Richard Bowes completed the Lock Ness marathon in 3:48:52, but closer to home Jim Desmond and Phyllis Flynn both competed in the Barnes Green Half Marathon, finishing in 1:32:16 and 1:40:02, while Simon Webb and Ian Hawkes ran the Windor Half in 1:42:29.
